A friend of mine in Aberdeen asked on Facebook for people to help out with a new logo for a new community association he was involved with. The brief was a sunflower, so I focussed on the florets at the centre of the sunflower. The arrangement of the florets is actually governed by a mathematical model based on the golden ratio. I converted the formula into a PHP function that generated an SVG file which I then imported into Illustrator, giving me a perfectly accurate representation of a sunflower head without having to manually place the dots!
I like the way that the florets also symbolise the nature of the association, a group of people who have come together to save the park. I used colour and font weight to emphasise the name of the park. The font is the ubiquitous Museo, which I’d like to point out I was using before it became so popular! It’s a nice slab serif, and also happens to be free!
The logo was well received, but ultimately rejected because it was deemed to be too abstract for the public, the word corporate was also used. Oh well, another one bites the dust!
